There are a huge number of pea varieties available in the UK. To make it easier for you to choose the best varieties for your needs we have grouped specific pea varieties according to the following groupings:
Shelling / Garden Peas are the traditional type of pea and are by far the most common type of pea grown and consumed in the UK. We list our recommended varieties below in alphabetic order.

There are several varieties of climbing garden pea varieties, most of them are quite capable of reaching 1.8m / 6ft high and they tend to produce very large quantities of peas for very little ground space. One particular variety we highly recommend is Alderman / Victorian Colossal.
Recent varieties of sugar snap peas originated from a chance cross in 1952. The pod is less fibrous and stringless compared to a garden pea and sweet enough to be eaten with the peas inside it. Breeding has led to some very tasty sugar snap peas and we list below one dwarf variety which we thoroughly recommend.
Very early harvest time, this variety is the sweetest sugar snap of them all. Suitable for small gardens and containers, see our full review of 'Sugar Ann' peas here.
